More info about it here or here, where you have a PPA, tooĬompare files (bytewise or by date) and synchronize them. It comes with a folder monitoring tool (RealTimeSync) that can launch FreeFileSync (actually any command or script) when that specific folder (or folders) or the files within are changed. It has a decent interface, acceptable comparing speed, good filtering of the comparison result, differents ways of syncrhronization. I also have some excluded directories from the RoboCopy backup itself, and these two are added to the filters so that they don't show up in the diffs.Try also FreeFileSync. I've added all of these into filters so that they just get ignored. For instance, I am backing up my User Profile folder, which contains a lot of noisy diffs from running applications. With WinMerge, I do use the filters to ignore certain folders. It seems WinMerge might be slow because it's trying to analyze text files to find out which lines are different. Every so often, I run a script that WinMerges the various folders and I check that there are no unexpected diffs. I am using RoboCopy to copy files to an external hard drive. WinMerge does what I need, but it is slow.

It just needs to say if files are identical or not - no text comparison. Is there a tool like WinMerge that can diff two folders but doesn't try to analyse the actual file differences.
